ED issues fresh summons to TMC ministers Sujit Bose and Rathin Ghosh in municipal recruitment case

The Enforcement Directorate has once again summoned senior Trinamool Congress leaders and ministers Sujit Bose and Rathin Ghosh in connection with the ongoing municipal recruitment scam investigation. Both leaders have been directed to appear before the agency at the CGO Complex in Salt Lake on April 24, at a time when the West Bengal Assembly elections are entering a crucial phase.

According to officials, this is the third time summons have been issued to both leaders in the same case. However, they have so far avoided appearing before the agency, citing their involvement in election-related campaign activities. With polling dates approaching, the latest summons has added political sensitivity to the ongoing investigation.

The ED is probing alleged financial irregularities in municipal recruitment and is reportedly adopting a stricter approach this time. Sources indicate that Sujit Bose had earlier sent certain documents through his son instead of appearing in person, but the agency has insisted on recording his direct statement. Rathin Ghosh, on the other hand, has stated that he is currently occupied with campaigning in his constituency and may appear only after the election process concludes.

The developments have triggered a political debate in the state. The Trinamool Congress has alleged that the timing of the summons reflects political pressure tactics by opposition forces, claiming that central agencies are being used to influence the electoral environment. The party has termed the actions as an attempt to create confusion among voters during the campaign period.

As both leaders are scheduled to appear on April 24, their response and possible cooperation with the investigation are expected to have significant political implications. If they fail to comply again, the ED is likely to consider stronger legal measures, further intensifying the ongoing probe.
